This is a tumblelog, kinda like a blog but with short-form, mixed-media posts with stuff I like. Scroll down a bit to start reading, or a bit more to read more about me.
One thing that I have learned over time is that I do not know everything….not even close. Contrary to what I believed when I was 16 years old, there are people who know more than me.
One thing that is essential to us as young professionals is to have someone that will guide us, or be our mentor as we start our careers. These people are not always the people who have the same personalities as us and will make us feel like we are God’s gift to mankind. This person needs to be someone who you can trust to make you better, who is not afraid to tell you that you are wrong and give you a reality check. A good mentor will tell you when you are on the right track and support you, but will not be afraid to break you down, but they do it to build you back up.
I have been very blessed to have great mentors in my life. There are times when I do not appreciate the criticism right away, but I know they have my best interest at heart. I have had some great mentors, who have completely broken me down and built me up stronger than I have ever been.
The thing that I have learned is I will never know it all; there will always be so much I do not know. You have to be hungry for knowledge and determined to master your craft. You need to seek perfection and get someone who will help you get as close as possible. One of my mentors told me “I do not expect you to be perfect, but I expect your best every day.” That is what a mentor is there for, to bring out the best version of yourself. As young professionals we need someone who will not let us quit when we want to, who will not let us fail, and will keep us on the right path.
I would like to thank all of my mentors, I would not be where I am today without you.
If you do not have a mentor, go find one. Network. Find someone who will help you be great. Find someone who is invested in your future and will help you reach your goals.
Why am I starting a new blog? Why should you be reading this?
Now let me give you a little warning before we start this. I am not a “professional” blogger, I do not lead an extravagant lifestyle (C’mon I live in Wisconsin), I am not some wonder child, and I am defiantly not God’s gift to the world when it comes to writing.
I have been writing a blog for nurses for about the past year, when I started blogging, let’s just say it was not my favorite thing in the world. I got nervous, did not know what to write, and had a hard time putting my thoughts on the screen. Over the past two weeks, I have not written a blog and ya’ know what….I missed it. I missed sharing information, interacting with people, and sharing my thoughts. I realized, I actually liked blogging!
So what does this have to do with the blog you are reading now?
For those who are going to college, in college or have graduated. It is not easy in the world right now for us(trust me I know, I just graduated college). Many of my fellow graduates and even the class that graduated a semester before me are having a tough time finding jobs.
This blog is for you.
The young people, who are serious about finding/starting a career, but they are “too young” and not taken seriously.
This blog is for you.
For anyone who has a dream of being successful and will work their hind end off to get there.
This blog is for you.
For the young professionals.
This blog is for you.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am not some wildly successful 23 year old. I am just a guy, who loves what he does and has worked his butt off to get to where he is today. This blog is my thoughts, feelings, life experiences and some fun quotes and stories along the way.
This blog is for me and you.
